Small Volume Flooding
In-Cabinet individual server fire protection by NanoMist ® agent uses implications the extensive tests conducted on electronics space fire protection investigation by the U. S. Naval Research Laboratory projects using NanoMist prototypes.
The NFPA requirement of fire extinguishment of data centers involve sprinklers and clean gas agents total flooding. If fire spreads into full volume, these fire protection solutions generally result in destruction of sensitive data, loss and damage of IT equipment, interruption of business, and loss of credibility of company in the internet age.
In addition to total flooding requirements, industries are looking for a cost effective solutions with little or no collateral damage, before the fire starts spreading. The fire prevention or extinguishment at the individual server level is becoming increasingly important mostly using clean gas agents for minimizing the downtime and ability to prevent damage due to smoke. We are introducing NanoMist water mist or hybrid mist as a fire suppression agent.
NanoMist® water fog is an attractive agent for small-enclosure applications because it behaves like a clean gaseous agent without requiring high enclosure integrity and is environmentally friendly. NanoMist® is a proprietary ultrafine water fog (below 10 micron size) that behaves like a gas (“pseudo gas”) and can replace current chemical gaseous agents and aerosols in modern smart fire protection systems, particularly in high impact business segments such as Micro Data Centers (MDC), In-Cabinet servers, mission critical electronic space, CNC machines, and electrical closets. The raised floor fire protection is another critical area. Significant independent research investigations and explorations have been carried out on NanoMist application to electronics space fire protection by the U. S. Naval research Laboratory. The mass flow of NanoMist® reagent required is relatively small and the device foot-print is compact and cost effective.
Unlike gaseous agents, NanoMist agent has a unique feature of combining cooling and inerting if fire develops. As described in previous section, a hybrid system with nitrogen co-flow is very effective and also reduces the water flow requirement.
