In NanoMist® Commercial Kitchen Deep Fat Fryer Fire Prevention Process the self-entrainment of mist cloud into the firebase ensures complete mist participation and extraction of heat at the firebase. Fires in deep fryers occur when oil temperature exceeds auto ignition temperature. If a cloud of mist surrounds the firebase, the buoyancy driven upward flow of fire pulls the mist into the firebase, along with ambient air if conveniently present. The fryer mockup used matched a Vulcan GR 85 in terms of oil surface area (fire area), depth, weight of oil (~85 lb.) and heating, and cooling characteristics. NanoMist fire suppression agent was discharged at the firebase at a rate of 1000 ml/min. The gas like mist is self-entrained by the rising buoyant oil-fire. The firebase is cooled instantaneously knocking down the fire (~400 kW) in a few seconds, taking less than a liter of water. The mist discharge is continued to prevent reflash.

A 1000 ml/min (1 LPM) NanoMist® generator prototype movie clip is also shown below. This misting unit can be used as base unit and may be multiplexed for larger array of fryers. The ultrafine mist has high number density and low momentum. The average droplet size is below 10 micron. Also shown is an array of multiple NanoMist devices flooding the area.
An example of NanoMist®-based restaurant fryer fire suppression system test outlay is shown below. The key factor is the discharge of mist at the base on the oil surface with low momentum using proprietary "diffuser" with a rectangular slit. Depending on the fryer area, the mass of oil (fire size) misters can be increased by multiplexing as shown in schematics. The mist may flow through a duct outlay from a cabinet to the diffuser location.
